This morning, at the Migdal Ohr Organization’s educational institutions, the pupils marked the Holocaust Memorial Day with ceremonies and activities

Today is the Holocaust Memorial Day.

It is our duty to remember and show our solidarity with those who perished in the Holocaust.  At Migdal Ohr Organization, we make sure to present this subject to the children in an appropriate manner.

The memorial ceremonies, the siren and the general atmosphere in the country are part of the Israeli experience and are picked up by the sensitive children.  At Migdal Ohr, thousands of pupils from early childhood to maturity are educated, and we have suited appropriate content and commemorations to mark this important day.

“The tears are salty

Whoever knows this can educate children.

Whoever does not cannot educate them.”

בוגר זוהרים בטקס החופה

He was evacuated from his home in the north, was called up for reserve duty and married his bride. Mazal tov to Yosef Ben Tulila, a Zoharim Youth Village alumnus.

Mazal tov to Zoharim Youth Village graduate, 24 year old Yosef from Kiryat Yearim, and his wife Rivka, who got married right before the Passover holiday!

Until October 7th, Yosef lived in the city of Metula, and was called up for reserve duty at the beginning of the war.  Yosef, who served in the Paratroops Corp, was called up immediately and fought courageously in Gaza.

During his army service, Yosef received the Outstanding Soldier Medal from the President of Israel, which is awarded to a select number of soldiers each year.  This was a tremendous achievement for him, since the IDF originally did want to recruit him due to his criminal past.  At Zoharim, Yosef learned how important it is to contribute to the State of Israel and Israeli society, to enlist in the IDF and serve his country.  He fought to get in and he succeeded.  Not only that, but he also insisted on enlisting in an elite combat unit to complete a meaningful army service!

Following October 7th, Yosef and his girlfriend Rivka were evacuated from the north.  They left all their possessions behind and have not yet returned!  When Yosef was discharged from reserve duty, he understood what the important things really are in life and proposed to his girlfriend Rivka.

Last week, Yosef returned to Zoharim; but this time in order to get married to Rivka.  Everything they had gone through in recent months, culminated in this moving moment that signified the strength of the Jewish People – holding on to our country, starting a family and planting strong roots in our homeland.

I’d like to thank all the donors and supporters of Zoharim Youth Village who enabled Yosef to change his life’s trajectory – from a teenager at-risk to an outstanding combat soldier, a young leader and now an exemplary husband.

Mazal tov newlyweds!

As Passover approaches, the pupils of the Migdal Ohr educational institutions attend a matza baking workshop

Passover is approaching and at the Migdal Ohr Organization’s schools, the holiday spirit can already be felt.  Today, the Migdal Ohr pupils participated in a matzah baking workshop,  experiencing the entire matza baking process from start to finish.

This is a real opportunity for them to learn how to make matzahs and to experience the fascinating process of baking them.  Each pupil kneaded, rolled out and baked their very own matzah, and at the end of the process, they enjoyed the delicious matzah that they made with their own hands.

At Migdal Ohr’s educational institutions, the bat mitzvah girls celebrate this exciting year with a myriad of activities to mark the occasion.

At Migdal Ohr’s educational institutions, the girls have begun to celebrate this special year of mitzvot.

The Migdal Ohr educational staff prepared an annual program for the Bat Mitzvah girls, to ensure they have an unforgettable year.

Adolescence is a significant part of the personal development of each and every one of them; however, there are girls whose families are not capable of mentoring them and providing them with an enjoyable bat mitzvah year and certainly cannot afford a ceremony or event.  At Migdal Ohr, the girls receive all the attention and love and they all celebrate together and mark this exciting year with very exciting activities packed with moving experiences.

This week, the pupils went on a trip and attended a challah baking workshop, visited  holy sites, were treated to a boat ride and took part in educational and empowering activities.

The Children of the Migdal Ohr Educational Institutions celebrate Purim. Rabbi Grossman: “Their smile is our victory”

On Purim, we customarily say – “V’nahafoch hu” – a reversal –  “Like the days upon which the Jews were relieved of their enemies, and the month which had been transformed for them from one of sorrow to joy, from mourning to festivity.”

We will celebrate the holiday under the shadow of war and remind ourselves that many times our enemies have pursued us and intended to destroy the Jewish People.  The Book of Esther tells the story of the Jewish People in those days and how they arose from an attempt to destroy them and were miraculously saved.

Today, the pupils of the Migdal Ohr educational institutions celebrated the holiday with Purim parties and costumes.  There were many “superhero” costumes, i.e., Israeli soldiers and members of the defense forces.  Soldiers, police officers, pilots, etc. brightening up the school.

The excited pupils could not stop smiling and laughing throughout the day, which was organized by the educational and teaching staff.

During this difficult period, Migdal Ohr ensured that the holiday parties and celebrations would be held.

Rabbi Grossman said: “Their smile and happiness is our victory over the evil enemies who wish to destroy us”.

Rabbi Grossman to the mother of Idan Shtivi, taken hostage in Gaza: “We desperately pray for the salvation of God and pray for Idan’s safe and complete return and the return of all the dear hostages”

Yesterday was a very moving day at the Migdal Ohr educational institutions, when the mother of Idan Shtivi, who was taken hostage to Gaza, met Israel Prize Recipient, Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman and the children of the Migdal Ohr educational institutions.

Idan, 28 years of age, an amateur photographer and student, came to the Nova Festival to photograph the party, when the vicious terrorist attack began.  He escaped in his car, but was caught by terrorists in an ambush.  His friends were murdered and he was taken captive to Gaza.  Idan has been held hostage by the Hamas for 159 days.

The Rabbi encouraged Dalit, Idan’s mother, and told her that he and the thousands of pupils at Migdal Ohr pray every day for the release of the hostages from the Hamas captivity.  Rabbi Grossman:  “We desperately pray for the salvation of God and pray for Idan’s safe and complete return and the return of all the dear hostages.”  The Rabbi blessed Dalit that she would hear good news soon.

A particularly moving moment was when the Migdal Ohr children’s choir sang and dedicated the song Let It Be to the mother.  We all pray for the safe return of Idan and all the 134 hostages still in captivity.

Please let it be

Everything we ask for, let it be”

11th and 9th graders from Zoharim Youth Village went to the desert to get away from the painful reality and returned with a better control of their lives

At Zoharim Youth Village, we are making sure to continue with our annual activities and to provide our pupils with a stable framework, especially during this tumultuous period.

This year, 9th and 11th graders went to the desert, for a break of a few days from the painful reality and returned with a better control of their lives, so they can carry on navigating their life trajectories.

For three days, they coped with the desert conditions on their own.  In the past, the Zoharim pupils have experienced a complex reality and had to cope with great difficulty; however, they chose to change their life path.  During this desert trip, they learned about their abilities to cope with challenges and difficulties that they often try to avoid on a daily basis.

They learned to read a map and the stars, to navigate, light a fire, cook and find shelter; but primarily, they learned about their hidden abilities and sense of self-competence that will lead them to take a new path of success and actualization.

The girls at the Afikei Ohr Youth Village thank the wives of reserve soldiers and present them with a special toiletry gift package

The heroines living in Israel’s home front are the wives of the reserve soldiers, who must cope with the absence of their spouse, fighting to continue to run the household, go to work and raise their children alone.

The pupils of Afikei Youth Village, established by Israel Prize Recipient Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman, think about these women all the time.

The girls created soaps, perfumes and other toiletries for each of the wives of the reservists in Migdal HaEmek, and presented them with a beautiful gift with a note they wrote:

“For you, whose husband was called up

And you yourself have dedicated yourself

And do so happily

You have given everything to the war effort,

We wish you much strength, and pleasant moments

We wish you all the best

And a month filled with blessing

We appreciate you very much, from the Girls at Afikei Ohr”

During the month of Adar, when it is customary to be happy, it was important to the Afikei Ohr Youth Village pupils to bring a smile to the faces of these women, whose difficulties are not always seen.

They were delighted to see the women smiling when receiving the beautiful gift.

The girls of Afikei Ohr and the entire Jewish People appreciate you.

As part of their curriculum, the 12th grade girls at Migdal Ohr visited the offices of the KLA hi-tech company and were introduced to a new and fascinating world

Migdal Ohr’s Preparation for Life Program provides the pupils at its educational institutions with many tools to reach a healthy and intelligent understanding of the profession they select.  The program introduces them to a variety of employment possibilities and provides them with the appropriate guidance.

Israeli hi-tech is an important growth engine in the Israeli economy, and this was an excellent opportunity to learn about and get to know this field up close.

12th grader, Yael told us:  “The tour was very interesting.  It was important to me to come to hear from the people who work in this field, about my options to find a place in this field.  These are obviously the professions of the future, and already are today”.

10th graders from the Zoharim Youth Village volunteered at the Senior Daycare Center in Even Shmuel

Meet the Tik Tok generation.  This is how they were described  – as glued to the screen, apathetic to their surroundings and caring only about themselves.  However, in recent months, we have seen how wonderful Israel’s younger generation is, who have fought, volunteered and helped in many ways.

At the Zoharim Youth Village, we teach our pupils to demonstrate leadership and assume responsibility for their surroundings and community, understanding that they are the future generation of the State of Israel.   At Zoharim, the pupils learn about the importance of giving back in order for them to develop and grow up to be citizens who contribute to society and the State of Israel.

This week, the 10th graders volunteered at the Even Shmuel  Senior Daycare Center.  Volunteering and working on behalf of the community are routine at the youth village, whose goal is to encourage the youth at risk to change their life trajectory for the good.

Zoharim Youth Village was established by Israel Prize Recipient, Rabbi Yitzchak David Grossman, giving these teens another, often last, chance to integrate into Israeli society as exemplary citizens.
